
Preface
ICCOC is a cooperation unit jointly founded by Republic of Indonesia and the People's Republic of China, to encourage develovment and cooperation in Marine Science and technology, to advance scientific marine research and to contribute to the protection of the coastal and marine environment towards the use of their resources sustainably.
ICCOC was established according to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Marine Cooperation between the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia (MMAF-RI) and the State Oceanic Administration of the People's Republic of China (SOA-PRC) signed in Jakarta on 10th Nove mber 2007 and the Protocol Amending the MoU signed in Jakarta on 29th April 2011. Furthermore this role of ICCOC enhanced into a national level through Arrangement signed by the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of the Republic of Indonesia and the administrator of State Oceanic Administration of the People's Republic of China on 23rd March 2012 in Beijing.
ICCOC secretariat was established in Jakarta on 14 th May 2010 and operated together by the Agency far Marine and Fisheries Research (AMFR) and First Institute of Oceanography (FIO) - State Oceanic Administration (SOA), the People's Republic of China.ICCOC is the inter ministrial level platform for facilitating cooperation and communication between the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) and SOA, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), including the establishment of joint observation stations, scientific research and technological development for ocean and climate, and data hub and information centre far the research on Ocean and Climate between the two countries.
The Main Tasks of ICCOC
The ICCOC have several important tasks, including:
1.To facilitate research in climate change.field as the plaiform of cooperation between China and Indonesia;
2.To coordinate the Indonesia-China collaborative activities, through but not limited to joint observation stations,joint cruises, etc;
3.To coordinate the exchanging visits and capacity building between Indonesia and China {joint workshops, training programs, etc) far pertinent.fields;
4.To build and operationally run the joint ocean observation stations (in Padang, etc)
5.To initiate and host the data centre and information on ocean and climate for the Indian Ocean and adjacent seas.
